Facilitation is when a neutral third party helps a group achieve its goals and work more effectively together.

The facilitator helps create and facilitate the meeting process, tracking and monitoring group participation, ideas, action items, and challenges while helping the group follow their agenda. This allows all group members to fully participate in the meeting. The facilitator also helps the group work through any difficulty or interpersonal challenges that arise.
